RASCAL Installation Notes

  • RASCAL 4.3.4 is primarily designed to run under Windows 10 and requires about 80 MB of disk space. Saved cases can require from 10’s of KB to 10’s of MB of space depending on the options selected, the duration of the modeling run, and the amount of weather data entered.

  • Installation requires Administrative rights. You may need to set the Admin rights before beginning the installation rather than waiting for a prompt to elevate permissions.

  • The installer will NOT update previous RASCAL 4.1 or 4.2 installations. RASCAL 4.3.x can be run in parallel with these earlier versions.

  • RASCAL needs write permission to the folders and subfolders of the main program installation (usually C:\NRC\RASCAL43). This may be something your IT staff needs to address depending on the settings on your computer. We are aware that the folder structure used by RASCAL that requires end user access to the program location is not ‘best practice’. That issue will be addressed in a later release.

  • RASCAL 4.3.x should be run only with the Windows Regional and Language Options set to English (United States). Other country settings may result in incorrect calculations or program crashes.

  • To make use of the Export to GIS Shapefile functionality of the STDose model you will need to install the MapWinGIS open source map package for Windows. The installer for this package can be downloaded from the RAMP website on the RASCAL Code Download page. This step can be skipped if you do not need the shapefile export functionality. The package can always be installed later. If the package was installed for use with RASCAL 4.3 or 4.3.1 you should not need to reinstall.
